Joi Siler King’s professional journey at Drew Eckl & Farnham, LLP is a testament to her dedication, skill, and rapid progression within the legal field.
Early Engagement and Academic Excellence
Joi began her association with DEF in June 2020 as a Summer Associate. She earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia School of Law in 2021, where she honed her leadership and advocacy skills. During her time there, she served as Treasurer of the Davenport-Benham Black Law Student Association and moot court, was on the Executive Board of Dean’s Ambassadors, and was a pupil of the Henry Joseph Lumpkin Inn of Court. Her accolades include the Outstanding Moot Court Advocate award for her participation on the American Bar Association and Emory Civil Rights and Liberties Moot Court teams. Additionally, she served as the Managing Editor of the 28th Volume of the Journal of Intellectual Property Law, focusing her research on copyright issues arising from social media and “meme culture”.
Transition to Associate and Notable Achievements
After passing the Georgia Bar exam, Joi officially joined DEF as an Associate in October 2021. Remarkably, just nine days after her admission, she played a pivotal role in the Gilchrist v. Pickens case, a real estate breach of contract dispute. Under the mentorship of Partner Gary Beelen, Joi drafted the complaint, prepared evidentiary materials, and conducted direct examination of witnesses. Her performance in court was lauded by both the bailiff and the judge, highlighting her composure and effectiveness despite her recent licensure.
In March 2023, Joi argued before the Georgia Court of Appeals—an invaluable professional milestone, even if the case didn’t go her way. In addition to her casework, Joi has taken on meaningful leadership roles within the firm. She served as the Associate Liaison from January 2023 to January 2025 and is an active member of the Summer Associate Committee, where she leads the 1L Diversity Fellow selection process.
Recognition and Current Role
Joi’s dedication and prowess have not gone unnoticed. In 2022, she was featured on Lawyers of Color’s Hot List, recognizing young, promising attorneys of color . She was also selected by her peers for inclusion in the Best Lawyers in America: Ones to Watch© in 2023 and 2024, specifically in Labor and Employment Law – Management in Atlanta. In 2025, she was honored as a Georgia Super Lawyers Rising Star in Business Litigation.
Currently serving as a Senior Associate at DEF, Joi focuses her practice on commercial disputes and employment matters. She is known for her tenacity, thoroughness, and innovative approach to client solutions.
Community Engagement
Beyond her legal practice, Joi is deeply committed to community service. She volunteers with youth in foster care through the Junior League of Atlanta as well as Grant Park Conservancy and Grant Park Parents Network.
Joi Siler King’s trajectory at DEF exemplifies the firm’s commitment to nurturing talent and underscores the impact of dedication and excellence in the legal profession.
