Accounting Manager

The General Accounting Manager ensures all monthly transactional activity is properly entered in the general ledger, assists with the preparation of monthly financial, operational, and production reporting, and assists in the annual budgeting process. The individual is required to research and provide necessary information on budget variance and other ad hoc reporting requirements. The General Accounting Manager provides support to the Chief Operating Officer and provides oversight of specific accounting staff. The General Accounting Manager reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES for the Accounting Manager include the following but are not limited to: Responsible for monthly distribution of month end timekeeper reports and various reporting requirements as assigned. Responsible for monthly cyclical activities to support the month end close activities such as journal entries, including both cash and non-cash activity, and reconciliations. Prepare and input journal entries. Prepare monthly reconciliations between G/L accounts and subsidiary ledgers and certain Balance Sheet accounts by the required monthly deadline. Maintain and update general ledger accounts in appropriate financial systems. Ensure consistent treatment of accounting transactions for all locations and sections. Partner with Chief Operating Officer and obtain team member support in overall business and process improvement. Provide oversight and enforce proper internal accounting controls. Confer with other Managers to coordinate activities of individual departments where responsibilities intersect. Other duties as assigned by the Chief Operating Officer.
ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS for the Accounting Manager include the following but are not limited to: Bachelor’s degree in accounting and seven years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience including a minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience. Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Must have experience with legal billing and accounting. Experience in Aderant Expert is highly preferred. Must have a strong understanding of the accounting cycle and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks in an environment of constant interruptions and be able prioritize responsibilities.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS Excellent verbal and written English language skills are required as well as good public relations, instructional/teaching, and customer service skills. Ability to read, interpret, understand and explain documents such as processes and company reports. Ability to effectively present information to others, gather information from others, and respond appropriately to questions from partners, employees, managers, co-workers, and clients. Must be willing to listen, assess situations and make objective decisions. Must display excellent phone and email etiquette, and the ability to communicate in a pleasant and friendly manner. Must consistently demonstrate strong customer services skills and have a desire to serve.
PROFESSIONAL SKILLS Must be a team player and exhibit a strong desire to learn and promote self-growth. Must be pro-active, have a good attitude, be self-disciplined, and self-motivated. Must be a “take-charge” person with a demonstrated ability to follow projects through to completion. Attention to administrative detail is required. Must be articulate, able to give clear instructions, demonstrate organizational skills, and meet reasonable deadlines. Must be able to maintain strict confidence with regards to sensitive and protected personnel/confidential information. Must be able to gain trust, respect, and confidence of employees and managers. Must be able to hold firm when necessary, provide constructive feedback, and compromise when appropriate.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to compile and decipher information in spreadsheet format. Strong aptitude for compiling, deciphering and relating financial information in various formats. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS Must have ability to solve practical problems without close supervision. Must exercise sound judgment in dealing with employee concerns and questions and set appropriate boundaries. Must possess problem-solving and investigative skills.
Legal Assistant
