Topic: Employee Handbooks: Are they Helping or Hurting You?
Imagine one of your employees has filed a case against your company, and the employee’s attorney has asked for your deposition. Among other things, you will be questioned about the policies in your Employee Handbook, and whether they have been followed. As you prepare for your testimony, how likely is it that your handbook is up to date? That everyone involved in the case, from the employee’s supervisor to management, has followed the procedures laid out in the Handbook? That the procedures applied to this employee have been uniformly applied to others? Employee Handbooks are a double edged sword: they can either help or hurt your company, depending on how well they are thought out and constructed. This program will walk you through how Employee Handbooks should fit within your Company’s mission, what laws do (and don’t) apply, how to create and review them, and how to make sure they meet your objectives.
