This weekend, Trial and Appellate Partner Elissa Haynes was sworn as the 75th President of the State Bar of Georgia’s Young Lawyers Division.
In 2016, Haynes graduated from the State Bar of Georgia’s Young Lawyers Division (YLD) Leadership Academy, a six-month program aimed at teaching young lawyers more about their profession, communities, and state. Over time, Haynes joined and contributed to several of the organization’s committees, serving as chair of the YLD Appellate Admissions and Legislative Affairs Committees before she was elected to serve as a Northern District Representative on the YLD Representative Council. Haynes then ran for and was elected Secretary of the YLD where she continued to move up the ladder to her current position as President. As President of the YLD, Haynes also serves on the State Bar of Georgia’s Executive Committee and is involved with several State Bar committees.
Elissa has also stated her four main goals for the year as President:
- Promote involvement and inclusivity within the YLD at any stage of a young lawyer’s career.
- Increase legislative involvement among our young lawyers.
- Encourage greater interaction between the YLD and “big bar” through the addition of a networking reception at the Midyear Meeting and by combining our Fall meeting in October with the Board of Governor’s meeting in Savannah.
- Continue using technology to better our organization by keeping a virtual option for all YLD meetings and by working to create a YLD-wide listserv for our members to seek advice and initiate case referrals.
