David Smith has been practicing workers’ compensation law for more than 38 years. He has now taken “Of Counsel” status with the firm. He has handled thousands of cases for employers and insurers over his career. In recent years, David focused on the retail industry and has extensive experience with a major grocery retailer. He works closely with claims adjusters, risk managers, HR professionals and self-insured companies to help them quickly resolve claims.
When he was a partner in the firm, David was very active in firm management and served on Drew Eckl & Farnham’s Board of Directors. In addition, he was the Chair of the Associate Review Committee and the Summer Associate Committee. For many years, he was the chair of the Hiring and Recruiting Committee.
He is currently the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation and has been a long term Board member and was past chairman of the Development Committee. He is a member of the Inquiry Club, a longstanding Atlanta discussion and supper club. David is an active volunteer at the Atlanta Botanical Garden and is very involved with All Saints Episcopal Church in midtown Atlanta where he serves on the usher guild, the annual canvass team and the All Saints Round Table.
He is Martindale Hubbell AV peer rated in Workers’ Compensation Law. He was selected by his peers for inclusion in the Best Lawyers in America© 25th edition in the field of Workers’ Compensation in Atlanta in 2018 and 2019.
He is a past co-chair of the ICLE Workers’ Compensation Law Institute and is a frequent speaker on workers’ compensation issues.
